ATHENS – William R. Evener, 91, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, October 31, 2017 at The Laurels of Athens.
Born September 28, 1926 in Chauncey, he was the son of the late Richard Z. and Edith Smith Evener.
He was retired from ABEX and was formerly employed at Pratts Meat Processing, North American Aviation and had been a coal miner. He was a member of the Poston United Methodist Church and was a US Army Veteran of WWII and was known to take great pride in his home, gardening, and upkeeping of his yard. He would do anything at any time to help others.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana (Richard) Bainey of Athens, Debra Guarneri of Centerville; three grandchildren, Richelle (Robert) McKee, Scott (Tracy) Mingus, Phillip Guarneri; four great grandchildren; and a brother, Pete (Barb) Evener of Chauncey.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florabel; a daughter, Penny Phillips; a great grandson, Alex Bobo; his twin sister, Margie Webb; and three brothers, Joe, Carl, and John Evener.
Services will be Sunday at 1:00 PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Dick Covert officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens where military services will be conducted.
