Chester - Virgil Windon, 87, of Chester, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at Arbors at Pomeroy.
Born November 11, 1935 in Gallipolis, Ohio, he was the son of the late Waid and Clara Leifheit Windon. Virgil was mechanic and heavy equipment operator for Goeglein Brothers, Crown City Mining, Gene Engle Construction and ODOT from where he retired. He was a member of Shade River #453 F&M for 61 years, Meigs County Agriculture Society for twelve years where he also served as president, the Belles & Beaus Square Dance Club, and the Republican Central Committee. He was an avid blood donor, attended Chester United Methodist Church and was a Chester Township Trustee.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Smith Windon; four children, Debbie Chevalier, Brian Windon (Elizabeth Harris), Becky (James) Cotterill and Blair (Diana) Windon; seven grandchildren, Gabe (Brittany) Farley, Beth Smith, Adam (Emily) Chevalier, Abbie (Kevin) Marcinko, Amanda (Cacy) Faulk, Justin (Deidra) Cotterill, Morgan (Nathan) Rothgeb; ten great grandchildren, Hannah, Camden, Alexis, Aubree, Henry, Mya, Dylan, Leo, Briggston, Kelbie, and due in December Baby Rothgeb; a niece, nephews and a host of family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded by his twin sister Virginia (Lee) Tyler, an infant brother and a son-in-law Rodney Chevalier.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Ewing-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, Ohio with Walt and Sheryl Goble officiating. Burial will follow in the Chester Cemetery in Chester, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8 PM at the Ewing-Schwarzel Funeral Home with a masonic service conducted by the Shade River #453 F&M at 7:45.
