Thomas “Tom” Antle passed away on Saturday, March 22, after a brief illness and a courageous battle between remaining on Earth and joining Jesus. In the end, Jesus called him home.
Born on July 30, 1955, Tom spent his life in Athens County, where he worked and built lasting relationships. He dedicated 40 years of service to the Kroger Company before retiring, later working as a carrier for the Pathology Laboratory.
A well-known figure in the Athens area, Tom was recognized for his exceptional athleticism, particularly in long-distance running. Over his lifetime, he completed 20 marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon. Later in life, he found joy in long-distance biking with friends, always embracing an active and healthy lifestyle. An avid hunter and sportsman, Tom cherished his time in the woods—especially during turkey season. For him, nature was more than a pastime; it was a sacred space where he felt closest to God, often engaging in deep, heartfelt conversations with Him.
Beyond his personal pursuits, Tom was devoted to his faith. He served as an Associate Pastor at the Living Water Worship Center in Albany, alongside his brother in Christ, Pastor Jimmy Stewart. He found immense joy in guiding lost souls to Christ, witnessing their transformations, and lifting his voice in praise, always giving glory to God for everything in his life. His unwavering faith shaped his journey, and his greatest love was for his wife, Sheila, his children, and his grandchildren.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
We find peace in knowing that Tom ran his final mile straight into the arms of Jesus.
Tom was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Antle. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Sheila Evener Antle; his son, Michael (Maria); his daughter, Lindsey Antle McAuley (Olly); his parents, Bob and Martha Antle; his sister, Peggy Antle Woods (Henry); his brother, Tim Antle (Krista); and his cherished grandchildren: Skylie Jo, Dolan, Layla, Olivia, Crosby, and Oziah.
