Roy R. Hannum
LONG BOTTOM—Roy Robert Hannum, 93, of Long Bottom, Ohio, died peacefully at his home on Monday, January 31, 2022, from natural causes.
Known affectionately by his family and closest friends as “Junior”, he is survived by his son, David and Wendy (Bies) Hannum of Long Bottom and daughter, Susan (Hannum) and Brad Witmer of Kingwood, Texas. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Marilyn (McCray) Hannum, his brother William (Bill) Hannum, his sister Elanor (Hannum) Kim, his mother Ella (Riley) Hannum and his father Roy H. Hannum.
Roy was an active member of the Hickory Hills Church of Christ, where he taught bible classes for many years and served as an elder for over two decades. Roy retired from what is now Eramet (formerly Elkem and Union Carbide) in Marietta, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in agriculture, so naturally, he loved raising a very large garden and working outdoors. Until the last few years, when weather permitted, he was routinely seen in the seat of his John Deere mower or his John Deere “H” tractor. He loved the Cincinnati Reds, the Cleveland Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 1:30 P.M. at the Hickory Hills Church of Christ building and will be open to the public.
Arrangements have been entrusted to White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, Ohio.
