Athens- Rodney G. Holley, 61 of Athens, died Friday, August 17, 2018 at his home. Born June 21, 1957, he was the son of the late James Garland and Fern Stump Holley.
A 1975 graduate of Vinton County High School and graduate of Hocking College, he held a career with the Athens Post Office where he would retire from after years of service. He was a member of The Plains Nazarene Church and past member of the Athens County Amateur Ham Radio Club, call sign KA8NDC. He loved traveling, woodworking, fixing things, listening to 60’s and 70’s music, was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, and enjoyed following the space shuttle program. He was loved by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rebecca Smith Holley, of Athens; daughter, Kira (Jerrad) Willis, of Guysville; sister, Angela (Jan) Nilsen, of Albany; brother, Jeff Holley, of New Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, James, Jr., Larry, Danny, and Randy Holley, and two sisters, Judy Brooks and Evelyn Sheets.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 1PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. James Lanning officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens. You may call upon the family at the funeral home Tuesday from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial contribution in Rodney’s name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, 111 West 33RD Street, 10TH FL, New York, NY 10001-2904.
