Rev. Carl Leslie Gillilan

Rev. Carl Leslie Gillilan, son of Stanley Alfred and Florence Mae Stout Gillilan, was born on August 17, 1915 in Coolville, OH. He graduated from Belpre High School in 1934 and married Frances Cathleen Blake on Friday, May 15, 1942. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Force with a station Compliment Squadron at an Air Service Command Depot in Warrington, England.
After the war, he had a 22 year career with the U.S. Postal Service. He was ordained in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and served various churches in Athens, Meigs, Washington and Hocking Counties before retiring in 1987.
Carl was a member of the Mount Herman Church of the United Brethren In Christ. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #9053 and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #53. He was also a member of the Coolville Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Frances Blake Gillilan; a sister, Dorothy M. Warner. In addition he is survived by his four children and their families, Roger L. and Sharon Fiddler Gillilan, of Dayton, OH, Linda E. Gillilan and James V. Frey of Belpre, OH, Karlen Joyce Gillilan Smith of Lancaster, OH and David E. Gillilan of Coolville, OH; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Gillilan. Also by six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley A. Gillilan; mother, Florence M. Stout Gillilan and brother Charles L. Gillilan.
Services will be held at 3 P.M., Friday, July 19, 2013 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, OH with Rev. Harley Fiddler officiating. Burial will be in the Coolville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, from 1 P.M. until time of service.
