Patricia Ann Carpenter

Patricia Ann Carpenter, nee Riley, known affectionately as Pat, passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 71, in Charleston, West Virginia. Born on July 12, 1953, in Athens, Ohio, she dedicated her life to education and the arts, leaving a lasting impact on her community and all who knew her.

Pat graduated from Federal Hocking High School before earning her degree from Ohio University. She returned to her roots to educate future generations, spending 35 years as a beloved teacher at Federal Hocking Schools. Her commitment to education and her students was evident in her passion for teaching and her continuous efforts to engage and inspire young minds. 

Beyond her professional life, Pat was a skilled award-winning quilter, often spending hours meticulously crafting beautiful pieces that she generously gifted to friends, family, and charities. Her quilts not only warmed the bodies but also the hearts of those around her.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, James Carpenter, parents, Fawna and Freeman Riley, and her sister, Peggy Riley. She is survived by her son, Alex Carpenter-Jones (Kevin Jones), and stepson, Jay Carpenter (Kathy Carpenter), who will miss her deeply along with many other family members and friends.

A viewing will be held to honor Pat's life and legacy on Wednesday, August 7th from 5:00PM-7:00PM, and the funeral will be held Thursday, August 8th at 1:00 PM, details of which can be obtained from Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio, which is assisting the family during this difficult time. Following the funeral service, Pat will be interred in Letart Falls Cemetery, Racine, OH. Pat's life was a tapestry of dedication, love, and kindness, and she will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know her.
