Norman Evan Midkiff
Norman Evan Midkiff, 96, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in Florida.
Norman was born July 2, 1919 in Marion, Ohio, to Harley Albert and Ada (Pierce) Midkiff. Shortly after his birth, his family moved back to Cherry Ridge in Bedford, Meigs and from there to Dutch Ridge, Carthage, Athens. After many years, he sold the farm and moved to Reedsville, Meigs. The past several years he has called Winter Springs, Florida his home.
Besides being a small farmer, Norman also was a natural gas and oil well driller for many years, mostly working with Frank and Leo Grimm. His passion for drilling continued when he started his own business drilling water wells around the area. He also made a living cutting timber for many years. Norman has been a member of the Savannah F&AM Masonic Lodge #466, Guysville, for 72 plus years.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Myrtle Eva (Murphy); their daughter, Ada Grace (Midkiff) (Depoy) Windland; two sons-in-law, Albert N. Depoy and Dale C. Windland; his second wife, Eunice O. (Spencer) (Gilland) Midkiff and a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine (Howard) Midkiff.
Norman is survived by his brothers, Ernest of Athens and Ray (Bernice) of Langsville; several nieces and nephews; his three grandchildren, Gwenda (Richard) Ruff of Chadron, Nebraska, Galin Depoy of Guysville and Roger Depoy of Athens; step-children, Ann (Ken) Fausnaugh of Belpre, Eva Gilland of Winter Springs, Florida, Eddie (Janet) Gilland of Lucas, Ohio and Jeff (Patty) Gilland of Boston, Kentucky and a big bunch of grandchidren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who were considered his family members.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M., Thursday, May 5, 2016 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, OH. Burial will follow in the Athens County Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
