ATHENS - Michael Edward Hess, 77 of Athens, passed away late Wednesday night, August 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. Born September 17, 1945 in Spencer, WV, he was the son of the late Vernon Edward and Marjorie Irene Watson Hess. Michael was an honorable veteran of the United States Air Force serving during Vietnam. After the war, he worked as carpenter for over 40 years. He loved life & family and had a passion for fishing. He was also a loyal member of the St. Phillips Church of Circleville, OH. He will always be loved and missed. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Hess nee Short; three children, Michael (Sharon Casapulla) Hess, II, Victoria (Eric) Wisecup, Chad Hess; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Hess, Adam Hess, Jonah Hess, Kyle Reynolds, Zach Reynolds, Logan (Samantha Stevens) Hess, Holly (Aaron) Atencio, Abbey Roberts, Mallory Isles; two great-grandchildren, Jack Roberts, Nicholas Isles; brother, Roger (Deanna) Hess; and brother-in-law, Phillip Knopp. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sharon Knopp. Arrangements are entrusted to Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home where cremation will take place. A memorial service will be 11AM on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at St. Philips Episcopal Church, 129 W. Mound Street, Circleville, OH 43113. Inurnment will be the next day at 1PM, Sunday, October 15, 2023 in Hebron Cemetery, Spencer, WV.
