Matt Street

Amesville - Matthew J. Street, 53, of Amesville, died unexpectedly Monday, January 20, 2025 at his residence.

Born December 14, 1971, in Lorain, Ohio, he was the son of Marie Nickolette and the late John A. Street. As a youth he developed a love of the game of hockey and was a goalie on the Bay Village High School team for four years. Matt was a 1990 graduate of Bay Village High School and he attended Ohio University where he grew fond of Athens and never left. He had a passion for music, it was his life. He enjoyed building guitars as a hobby and worked at Stewart McDonald in Athens. Matt loved nature, animals and his log cabin in the country.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Marie and Gregory Tench; two stepbrothers, Thomas (Shawnda) Tench and Scott (Shelly) Tench; one stepsister, Nicole (Norm) Patrick; two uncles, Terence (Megan) Nickolette and Larry Fankhauser; five cousins, Aaron (Kim) Nickolette, Corey Nickolette, Brett Nickolette, Ryan Nickolette and Heather (Bill) Nelson and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John C and Margaret Street Spangler; maternal grandparents, Ernest C and Maisie Nickolette; one aunt, Carol Fankhauser and his beloved dog Chet.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 24, 2025 at the Hughes Funeral Home in Athens. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. A Christian Burial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Christ Church Westshore Anglican at 726 Avon Belden Road in Avon Lake, Ohio.
