ATHENS - Mason Wells Chambers, age 57, passed away unexpectedly from complications of heart failure on Friday April 16, 2021. He was surrounded by family.
Mason was a graduate of Granville High School class of 1982. He graduated from Ohio University, where he met his wife Lisa in 1986 and majored in History and Political Science. He started his dream of owning a native plant nursery and landscaping business in 1995, and among his lasting legacies are many lovely examples of his creativity and artistic vision. These include several of the Athens County Public Libraries, the natural playground at the Ohio University Child Development Center at the Ridges, and many private landscapes. All over Athens County plants are in different stages of growth, beautifying property, showcasing Mason’s artistry at work with nature. Our area will always be surrounded by the beauty he created.
Mason was keen to meet new people, he had a large circle of lifelong friends, and was the catalyst for introducing many people and keeping his friends connected. Mason was much beloved for his clever wit, story-telling and poignant humor, and he honored his friends and acquaintances by bestowing comical nicknames that lasted a lifetime.
Mason was an avid beer can and memorabilia collector from childhood, with an emphasis on Ohio breweries. He also enjoyed listening to Cincinnati Reds baseball on the radio, like his father.
He is survived by his wife Lisa, son Will, daughter Grace, mother Carolyn, brother Christian, niece Elizabeth “Lizzie” Lund, nephew Dillon Chambers and many, many wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Williams D. Chambers.
