Mary Anna Stewart
LONG BOTTOM—Mary Anna Stewart, 81, of Long Bottom, OH, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Holzer-Meigs ER in Pomeroy, OH.
She was born Jan. 17, 1943, in Gallipolis, OH, daughter of the late Roy and Helen Saunders Fields. She was a 1961 graduate of Columbus West High School
Mary was an incredibly loved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her sister, Sherry L. Atherton, her daughter, Teresa McKenzie, her niece Christina M. Ooten, her grandniece and de facto granddaughter Alexis J. Hirzel, her grandchildren Donald W. Routte Jr., James D. Wear, Matthew E. Hayes Jr., Daniel J. Hayes and Katherine S. Hayes and her great-grandchildren Francesca Wear, Asher Wear, Colton Hayes, Aubrey Hayes and Nicole Hayes.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie J. Routte; a son, Matthew E. Hayes; and husbands Mike Scales and Jim Stewart.
Though she was married twice, she raised her children mostly as a single mother. She worked multiple jobs at a time to provide for them. And though life was hard for Mary, she always gave absolutely everything she had to her family!
Mary was magical during the holidays. She was the one who didn’t just make sure every toy had batteries at Christmas and birthdays, she also read all the instructions, made sure everything worked, and was a pro at all the games, way before Christmas morning or a birthday arrived!
Mary was the one that always had carrots and buttons ready when it snowed, so that she could build a snowman with the kids. Mary planned family reunions and managed to bring so many of us together in one place for every holiday, every milestone. She kept all of us connected!
Mary was the one who always showed up for all of us, every time. Mary was so strong and so independent. We all leaned on that strength and became better people because of it. Mary was the “fire" that kept us warm and helped light our way.
We love you dearly Mary Anna. You will be so sorely missed!
A Memorial service will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.
