Mary Lois Dixon Allen
Mary Lois Dixon Allen was born October 1, 1932 to Edgar and Myrtle Skeels Dixon, the youngest of seven siblings. She never moved from the Dixon Farm on Dixon Road. She attended Coolville Grade School and Carthage Troy High School, graduating in 1950.
After graduation, she went to work at Buch Auto Supply in Athens and later the Bank of Athens.
On June 29, 1952 she married her high school sweetheart, Otis Wade Allen. From this union was born James Hamilton (Debbie), Edgar Wade (Mary Agnes) and Steven Lee (Kimberly). After the first child was born, she stayed at home to raise them until the death of her father from an auto accident. He had always wanted her to take over his business, the Dixon Insurance Agency. She worked at that for many years. Then she went to work for the Ohio Department of Disability traveling many miles from home to Columbus, Cambridge and Cincinnati.
Mary let the Lord come into her heart in her twenties. She and her husband loved to attend revivals in the area. They also went to the Kentucky Mountain Christian Meetings and Southern Gospel Sings, Mount Sterling Ohio Gospel Sings and the Smokey Mountain Sings. Mary served on the Coolville Holiness Camp Meeting Board as the secretary, taught Sunday school and played the piano at church.
Following in her father’s footsteps, Mary worked the on local election board. She retired from these different jobs to care for her ailing husband who moved to heaven August 3, 2013.
In addition to her three sons and daughter-in-laws, Mary is survived by nine grandchildren Jessica Randolph, Jameson (Patty), Leah Ruby (Ian), Jeana Vancil (Jamey), Katrina Miller, Erika Allen, April Bravo (Rigo), Glendon (Samantha) and Grayson. She was blessed with twelve great grandchildren Dominique, Cynthia, Kiley, Jakob, Mariah, Mackenzie, Maria, Derik, Lola, Mary Martha, Marina, and Adaline.
Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, her church family and her special house pet, Maggie.
Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings Clifford, Robert, Wilbur, Nina, John and Ruth, her in-laws Ralph and Itha Allen, her in-law siblings Eleanor and Mary Alice.
Her soul has now arrived in heaven and her one prayer was that all the family will join her and Otis one day in heaven.
Her body will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Coolville Cemetery.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M., Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, OH.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 11 A.M. until time of service.
