Mark Van Dyke, 66, of The Plains, died peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born December 21, 1956 in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of the late Dorrise VanDyke and Eleanor Gibson VanDyke Rinehart. He was a 1976 graduate of Athens High School and a former member of the The Plains Volunteer Fire Department. Mark spent 35 years as the owner operator of Van Dyke Transportation where he bragged he drove over 5 million miles. He enjoyed spending time with his family, a good NASCAR race and going on cruises.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jennifer Walraven Van Dyke; two daughters, Amy Van Dyke and Ashley (Jeremy) Farley; seven stepchildren, David (Debra) Heightland, Angie Heightland, Lisa (Rick) Huston, Roger (Missy) Rutter, Heather (Ed) Carter, Amy (Jason) Wolfe and David Mayles. Fourteen grandchildren, Jordan, Dalton, Austin, Bennett, Michelle Brody, Chase, Drew, Avery, Owen, Kiley, Kaitlyn, Breeana, Jacob and Hadley; three great grandchildren and special friends, Paul (Frances) Walraven and Ed Hornsby.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Glenn Rinehart; a brother Randy Van Dyke and a special friend John Stobart.
Funeral services will be on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens with Dave Roach officiating. Burial will be in the Athens Memory Gardens, Athens, Ohio.
