     GUYSVILLE—Lura Helen Thompson, 55, of Guysville, OH, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at her residence.

     She was born May 17, 1968, in Athens, OH, daughter of Elizabeth Ann Thompson of Guysville, OH and the late Roger William Thompson.  Lura attended Federal Hocking High School and graduated in 1986. She worked at Dairy Mart in Athens, Hocking Valley Bank in Athens and Coolville, Southeastern Ohio Answering Service in Athens. Laughlin Music and Vending in Athens and Larry’s Dawg House in Athens. Lura was an avid hockey and volleyball fan.  She followed the Ohio University Hockey and Volleyball teams as well as the Columbus Blue Jackets. She loved Sothern Gospel Music attended as many Brian Free and Assurance concerts as possible.  Lura really enjoyed her mission trip to the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana.

     In addition to her mother, Lura is survived by 3 brothers, Carl Thompson and Charles Thompson both of Guysville, OH, Timothy and April Way Thompson; sister, Theresa and John R. Standley of Glouster, OH; niece, Megan and John Penn of Peebles, OH; nephews, Christopher Thompson of Jackson, OH and Riley Thompson of Peebles, OH; special great niece, Eleanor Penn of Peebles, OH, whom was the brightest light in Lura’s eyes.  Lura had many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family including special aunts Gladys Reeves and Bonnie Turner and special friends, Catrina Christian Baughman, Don and Pam Combs, Brian Free, Bill Shivers, Guy Kirby, Dustin Lambert and Jon McBroom.

     The family would like to say a special thank you to the many nurses and doctors who have helped Lura in her three year journey with rectal cancer. The doctors and nurses at the Ohio Health Castrop Health Center, especially her nurse, Kim Resanovich and the wonderful nurses and aides with Ohio Health Hospice. Also,88 a special thank you to everyone who helped Lura with donations and benefits. A special thank you to the person who helped her with her medical expenses.

     Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, from 4-6 P.M. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens.

     In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, 168 Morris Ave., Athens, OH 45701, to help with cremation services and a monument for the cemetery. Please indicate Lura Thompson on the donation.
