LARRY MCVEY
Larry J. McVey of Guysville, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away at his home on November 17, 2016 at the age of 67. He is proceeded in death by his father Owen McVey; his paternal grandparents, Edison and Hazel McVey; his maternal grandparents Augusto Zamparutti and Luiga Burello; and May 13, 2016 his brother Marco McVey.
Larry was born at home in Albany, Ohio on February 3, 1949. He graduated from Carthage Troy High School and studied at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He retired from International Converters Inc. /Kaiser Aluminum Chemical Corp. in Belpre, Ohio after 35 years of employment as an Assistant Laminator Operator. On December 13, 1974 he married Kathy McVey (Boyer).
Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife Kathy; his son Barry and his wife Erin, his pride and joy only granddaughter Olive; his mother Elisa Zamparutti McVey; his brothers, Gary Tino (Marilyn) McVey; Terry McVey, Cary McVey, Steven (Shellie) McVey; his sisters Nirvana (Roger) Zimmerman, Diana Dienoff, Linda (Jerry) Weiss, Gloria (Bill) Barnhart and Timbi McVey/Hoon; Mary McVey; nieces, nephews; and the rest of his famiy and friends.
Larry’s life was more about living than thinking about dying. He loved to write and many enjoyed the stories he shared in his Piper Run Newsletter as well as on Facebook. Among Larry’s other interests were Nascar, Bluegrass music and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He loved his mini doxie Bella, people and to talk. When CB radios were the rave, he was Captain Colonel Cornbread. From 1980 to 2008 he was the Rome Township Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief. He owned and operated Pioneer Gun Shop in Stewart, Ohio from 1969 to 1978. He was known for his pioneering airbrush custom T-shirts at Skyline Speedway and CB Club. Larry also loved history, especially barns of Ohio and preserving historical relics. After inquiring where the Ohio Bicentennial County Bell was, Larry was very proud that it was located and properly displayed at the Athens County Courthouse in July 2016.
The visitation will be held at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, 2817 Fifth St., Coolville, Ohio on November 20, 2016 at 4-8 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 21, 2016 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home with Denny Bolin officiating followed by a Firefighter Funeral Service with Jeremy Snedded officiating. A reception will follow the services at the Stewart Wesleyan Church in Stewart hosted by the Rome TWP Fire Dept. and the Stewart Wesleyan Church.
At Larry’s request, he will be cremated following the services.
