Larry W. Hughes

The Plains - Larry W. Hughes, 85, of The Plains, died Monday, April 15, 2024 at his residence.

Born November 16, 1938, in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Higgins Hughes.  Larry was a graduate of Athens High School and a United States Army Veteran.  He was employed at McBees in Athens for many years before taking a job with the City of Athens as a Code Enforcement Officer from where he retired.  Larry loved spending his summer evenings at the Jaycee Fields playing adult softball for the Maplewood Inn and was a member of the Athens Elks Lodge 973.  He and his wife Verna  enjoyed traveling to Florida to spend their winters and hoist their grandkids with trips to Disney.  

He is survived by one son, Dave (Teresa) Hughes; his daughter, Diana (Nicky) Prince and two grandchildren, Cody and Chase Prince.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Bickley in 2016.
