Larry Edward Douglas, Sr.

Larry Edward Douglas, Sr., 72 of Athens, went to be with the Lord Saturday evening, July 6, 2024 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Born August 15, 1951 in Athens, he was the son of the late Oba Douglas, Jr. And Janet McClean Lawrence.

Larry had a passion for woodworking and spent many hours at the lake fishing. He retired from the Athens City School District after over 35 years of loyal service where he was respected by all his colleagues and friends for his hard work ethic and leadership skills. His quick whit and high spirits would always light the room with smiles. His woodworking expertise entailed the finest details, no matter should he be constructing a rocking horse for a child or building a clock. His compassion was endless and he will be greatly missed by all who had the honor to call him a friend.

He is survived by his three children, Larry E. “Bear” (Amanda) Douglas, Jr., Tammy Tinkham, Sylina (Joseph) Norris; 12 grandchildren, Kenneth Cremeans, Jr., Michael Coen, Tamara Warner, Trey Coen, Kayla Davis, Amanda Tinkham, David Cochran, Miranda Tinkham, Allie Spears, Dylan Cochran, Brennan Douglas, Connor Douglas; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Marvin (Lavonda) Lawrence and Bruce (Clara) Lawrence.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Donald “Donnie” Lawrence.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home where a funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 beginning at 1PM with Mark Rood officiating. Burial will follow in Athens Memory Gardens. You may call upon the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11AM - 1PM.
