ATHENS - Kathryn Marie Groce Ellis, 96, formerly of Athens, passed away at The Davis Community Nursing Home in Wilmington, NC on May 30, 2017. Kathryn was born August 30, 1920 in Salem, in Athens County, OH. She was the daughter of the late William Curtis and Ruth McNeal Groce. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Arthur P Ellis on December 14, 2014. Kathryn graduated from The Plains High School, The Plains, OH. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Athens. Kathryn married her high school sweetheart, Art, and they both fulfilled their sacred wedding vows, “until death do us part”. During World War II she worked in a Defense Plant and was an inspector of airplane valves. Most importantly she was a loving, devoted, wife and mother. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the most important part of her life. She was a Homemaker and could do it all. In today’s world that would be called a Domestic Engineer and she was one of the best. Kathryn is survived by her older brother, Dwight Groce. Dwight’s wife, Iona Groce (deceased). Her son, Terry Arthur Ellis and his wife Cindy. They have two daughters, Meghan Kathryn and Lauren Elizabeth. They reside in Palatine, IL. Terry has one son, Trent Arthur. Trent has one daughter, Emily Lynn and they reside in Wheat Ridge, CO. Her daughter, Carolyn Kay Wilkinson and her husband, Dr. Michael O. Wilkinson reside in Wilmington, NC. They have four children, Chad, Todd, Kevin and Courtney. Chad and his wife Sara, have two children, Kinsley Kathryn and Hudson Michael. They reside in Virginia Beach, VA. Dr. Todd Wilkinson and his wife Laurence, have two sons, Kyle Owen and Donovan Arthur. They reside in Asheville, NC. Kevin and his wife Susan, have five children, Lily Kathryn, Landon and triplet daughters, Reagan, Sadie and Caroline. They reside in Wake Forest, NC. Courtney Wilkinson Clark and her husband Allen have one son, Brody. They reside in Youngsvillet, NC. Graveside services will be Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Athens Memory Gardens with Rev Robert McDowell officiating.
