John W. Douglas
PARKERSBURG-- John W. Douglas, 64, of Parkersburg, WV, went to be with his Lord on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
He was born Oct. 23, 1954 in Gallipolis, OH, son of the late Glen and Nancy Webb Douglas. Since 1996, John has been the pastor of the River Valley Community Church of the Nazarene in Vienna. He was the former pastor and church planter of the Fellowship Church of the Nazarene and Fellowship Christian Academy in Reedsville, OH. He served as a camp counselor and on various district boards of the WVN Church of the Nazarene. He loved gospel music and was a member of the Harvest Trio and DaySpring Southern Gospel music groups for many years. John retired from DuPont with 19 years of service and was also the former track coach at Wood County Christian School. John was a 1973 graduate of Parkersburg South High School from which he was an inductee of the Parkersburg South High School Football Hall of Fame and he was the recipient of the West Virginia Morgantown Touchdown Club Player of the Year. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting with his son Jonathan and “Talkin’ About Heaven” – #74 in “The Singing News.”
John is survived by his wife of 44 years on November 27, Sue Gibson Douglas; one son, Jonathan (Christina) Douglas; three grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Tori, Karli and Natalie; one brother, Mike (Helen) Douglas; one sister, Sandra (Tawny) Douglas; two nephews, Braeden and Connor Douglas-Peer.
Funeral services will be held at the Broadway Church of the Nazarene, 901 Broadway Ave., Parkersburg, WV 26101, at 11 A.M., Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, with Rev. Kevin Dennis, WVN District Superintendent and Pastor Toby Dukich officiating. Immediately following the service, a celebration of life meal will be served at the church. Burial will follow in the Reedsville Cemetery, Reedsville, OH.
Visitation will be held at the Broadway Church of the Nazarene on Friday, from 2-8 P.M.
