Joan Stock, 91, recently of The Plains, Ohio died on December 2, 2020 at the Lindley Inn. Joan was born on October 12, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio to J. Ferris and Irene (Dahling) Mathis. Joan graduated from Withrow High School in Cincinnati in 1947 and Miami University in 1952 with a degree in marketing. She met her future husband, Freeman Stock, Jr., on a blind date while a student at Miami. After their marriage, Joan and Freeman lived in Richmond, Virginia for a few years where Joan worked as an administrative assistant at the Royal-Globe Insurance Companies until her son Freeman ("Toby") was born. In 1962, Joan and her family returned to the Cincinnati area where they lived for 40 years in Blue Ash, Ohio. Joan was a very good bowler who loved to knit, read, and work crossword puzzles. She was a huge fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. She is preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters, and her husband of 56 years, Freeman Stock. Joan is survived by her son, Toby (Gretchen) Stock of Athens, Ohio, and three grandchildren: Christy Stock of Tampa, Florida; Michael (fiancé, Marissa O'Callaghan) Stock of Lexington, Kentucky; and Alexander Stock, of Athens, Ohio. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home where friends and family may send condolences. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Alzheimer’s Association.
