Joan Gay Smith
Joan Gay Smith, 75, of Tuppers Plains, OH passed away Sunday, April 16, 2018 at Wyngate Senior Living in Parkersburg, WV.
She was born March 15, 1943 in Pt. Pleasant, WV, daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (Manley) Harmon.
Joan wanted nothing more than a family. Her boys were her world, and when they married she couldn’t wait for grandchildren.
She enjoyed cooking and baking Sunday meals for her family and made sure everyone had plenty to eat.
Joan had a generous demeanor and sought the best in everyone. She looked out for people and animals alike and when asked where she’d like to spend a Saturday afternoon, she’d likely say the animal shelter.
She was an avid reader who enjoyed sharing books with those around her, especially her grandchildren.
As her family grew up and moved away, she enjoyed scrapbooking, cross stitching and painting.
Joan loved to travel with her friends and her trip to Italy was a highlight.
She is survived by 3 sons, James Robert (Anne) Smith, Jr., Franklin Ray (Cindy) Smith and Michael Jason (Kristina) Smith; 3 grandchildren, Lauren, Marcus and Mason; a brother, Ed Jewell; a sister, Candice Call and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Smith; a brother, Harold and 2 sisters, Tammy and Linda.
At Joan’s request, private entombment services were held at 1 P.M. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Meigs County Memory Gardens with Pastor George Horner officiating.
