Joan C. Ruth

ATHENS – Joan “Joannie” Ruth, 91, of Athens, died Monday morning, April 2, 2018 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital.

Born December 14, 1926 in Toledo, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys Burson Friess.

She was a Life Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 21.

She is survived by her daughter, Jackie (Chuck) West; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Shane) Sloan, Craig (Heather) Young, Bryon (Chandra Smyers) Ely; 10 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ruth; two sisters, Virginia Nauer, Dorothy Jane Friess; a brother, Jack Friess; and a great granddaughter, Kaylen Young.

Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Rev. Matt McKee officiating. Burial will be in Shade Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM.
