ALBANY- Jesse Curran Catania, known to many as Jesse, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, in Athens, Ohio,
at the age of 41. He was born on July 1, 1982, in San Francisco, and was a beloved son, brother and friend.
Jesse was a star in his own right; a champion for the underdog and a gatherer of lost souls. His empathy for those less fortunate was truly remarkable. Jesse enjoyed caring for developmentally disabled individuals at ATCO, where he made a positive and lasting impact on many lives. Music was his passion, and he found joy in playing drums for various bands including 1st Street Heat,Bright at Night, Burning River Ramblers, and Slaughter Drive. He, and his brother Zach, placed first in the Battle of the Bands sponsored by the Hard Rock Cafe in Cleveland. Jesse’s talent and love of music shown through, and he found great happiness creating and playing music with his brothers Zach and Eli, who he adored. He was voted funniest person in his Senior class. His comedic wit was more than just skill…it was his superpower.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Jesse was a professional house painter, bringing brightness to many homes in the Athens area. His love for comedy, sharing funny stories and playing drums and guitar brought countless, joyous memories to those around him.
Jesse is survived by his father Joe (Kathy), mother Brenda (Deb Perkins), brothers Zachary (Liz), and Eli (Katie Scott), Angelica Owirka, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Hil Hackworth. Jesse was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jo and Paul Burson, his paternal grandparents Josephine and Anthony Catania, aunt Lynda Batdorff, and cousin Justin Batdorff.
A celebration of Jesse’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, from 3 PM - 5:30 PM , at the Federal Valley Resource Center, Stewart, Ohio. Donations to NAMI of Athens would be greatly appreciated.
