With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jennifer Marie Stewart on September 25, 2022. She was a cancer survivor and fought many health battles in recent years, including one with a very rare medical condition called Moyamoya. She showed incredible strength and courage in the face of these many adversities.
Jennifer was born in Korea on June 23, 1969. She spent her early years at an orphanage in Seoul until her adoption. While she never got the opportunity to return to her birthplace, she always felt innately connected to the culture and people. In 1975, Jennifer was adopted by her loving parents, Ronald and Mary Jane Black of Athens, Ohio, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her four siblings, Brian (Paula) Black, Julie (Brooks) McGee, Lori (Anthony) Coppola, and Peter Black.
She is also survived by her husband and high school sweetheart, Roger Lee Stewart II. Together, they built a life and love that spanned over three decades. Jennifer’s three sons were her greatest accomplishment. She remained their vivacious cheerleader and number one fan. If you ever had the chance to attend one of the boy’s sporting events, it’s likely you already knew that. Her sons, Roger (Kaylen) Stewart III, Joseph (Jessica) Stewart III, and Joshua (Mackenzie) Stewart, will miss her presence in their lives every day.
Jennifer’s final words of wisdom were to “Remember Ohana.” She valued family over everything and could not have been prouder to be a grandmother to seven grandchildren. Her legacy will live on through Mavrik, Mila, Kenzo, Landry, Calum, Izzi, and Sicily. Jennifer leaves behind a large extended family including father-in-law Roger Lee Stewart, sister-in-law Rogena Holliman, and many nieces and nephews.
Jennifer was not only a lover of people, she was also a lover of animals. Flowers are welcome or in lieu of flowers, please take this opportunity to donate or volunteer with your local animal shelter on her behalf. Friends and family may call Friday, September 30th from 4-7 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 1st at 11 a.m. You may leave a message of sympathy or donate to your local animal shelter at www.hughesmoquinfuneralhome.com.
