Roseville - Jeffery Matthew Gura, 65, formerly of Millfield and Athens, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, November 19, 2023, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born December 13, 1957, in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of the late Francis and Adeline (Kim) Gura. Jeff was a 1976 graduate of Athens High School and a member of the Athens Elks Lodge. He was a paramedic for Athens County for several years. He would later go to work for Hughes Funeral Home in Athens where he enjoyed taking care of families and their loved ones. In 1987, he joined the Athens Police Department as a patrol officer and then later became an investigator. He loved his job but due to an injury he was forced to go on disability. He then did odd jobs to give him something to do. His pride and joy was his grandkids. He was a loving Papa to Aiden, Kaidence, and Emelyn Shultz and Adalyn Cavinee.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy (Shifflet) Gura; a son, Jeffery Matthew Gura Jr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Kristin (Justin) Shultz of Medina and Chelsie (Shane) Cavinee of Corning; four grandchildren; in-laws, Thomas and Beverly Shifflet of Glouster; one sister, Susan (Bill) Durfee of Athens; one brother, Rich (Sandy) Gura of Zanesville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens. Burial will follow at the Athens Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
