James “Harlan” Jarvis
Stewart - James “Harlan” Jarvis, 97, of Stewart, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
James was born on February 21, 1927 in Braxton County, WV, he was the son of the late James Warden and Susie Fulks Jarvis. He was a US Army veteran who honorably served his country during WW II in Germany. He had many stories to tell about his time serving in Germany. In the late 1960’s, James moved his family to Florida. He became the head salesman at The Shell Factory in Fort Myers and Holiday Souvenirs in Fort Lauderdale where he worked for decades. James and his wife Victoria got to spend the last several years traveling to many cities to setup large displays of their beloved shells. Upon retirement James and Victoria moved back to Stewart, Ohio.
James is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 73 years, Victoria Davis Jarvis; he is also survived by sons Donald “Mike” Jarvis of Fort Myers, FL and Wendell Jarvis of Stewart; grandchildren, Vicki Piper, Josh Jarvis, Jason Jarvis, Wendy Jarvis, Forrest Jarvis Jr, Ricky Jarvis, Tamara Jarvis and James Jarvis; several great grandchildren; one brother, Glenn Jarvis and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by two sons, James Harlan Jarvis Jr in 2021 and Forrest Jarvis in 2024; one grandson, Michael Owen Jarvis; two sisters, Esta Cooper and Carole Cassudakis and one brother, Everett Jarvis.
Honoring James wishes he will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Carthage Community Church in Guysville. Burial will be in Stewart Cemetery in Stewart, Ohio where military graveside services will be conducted by the Albany VFW and Athens American Legion Post.
Following the graveside services, all are invited back to the Carthage Community Church for food and fellowship.
