NEW MARSHFIELD – Harriett L. Kovach, 84, of New Marshfield, passed away Monday morning, May 14, 2018 at The Laurels of Athens.
Born October 24, 1933 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Cathern Lucille Shaver Sapp.
She was a 1951 graduate of Athens High School and graduated from Ohio University in 1955 with honors where she was a proud member of the OU marching band. She previously taught at Lancaster Grade School before taking time to raise her family and then teaching at Waterloo Elementary until her retirement. Even after retirement she always remembered and recognized her former students. She was a member of the DAR and Retired Teachers of Athens County. She was an avid sports fan and loved fishing and listening to music.
She is survived by four children, Harriett Marie (Jim) Terwilliger, Karen Carbaugh, Jane Kovach, Mark (Sylvia) Kovach; three grandchildren, James and Patrick Terwilliger, David Carbaugh; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Steven Kovach in 2016; two brothers, Roger and Don Sapp; and a sister, Helen Charney.
Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home with Father Mark Moore officiating. Burial will be in Burlingham Cemetery.
