Harold B. Swisher

Harold B. Swisher, 97, of Athens, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. Born on May 8, 1926, in Guysville, Ohio, Harold was the son of the late Emmett and Nellie Barnhill Swisher. He was a 1944 graduate of Carthage-Troy High School. On May 15, 1950, he married his lifelong companion and the love of his life, Clarice Humphrey Swisher, in Coolville, Ohio. 
Harold was a United States Air Force veteran who served during WWII. Harold was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Athens and volunteered countless hours at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital. He was a very active parent, chairing one of the successful Athens' school levy drives. He enjoyed traveling, genealogy, his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In his later years, he helped lead the current event group at Lindley Inn. Harold began his career at the Ohio Farm Bureau and later joined Nationwide Insurance. He eventually retired after running his own insurance agency for over 40 years in Athens, Ohio.
 Harold is survived by his daughter, Martha (Tom) Gilbride; three grandchildren, Aaron (Lindsay) Gilbride, Kaitlin Gilbride, and Mark (Sarah) Gilbride; four great-grandchildren, Rory, Stewart, Ellie, and Owen; special niece and nephew, Cathy Kibler and Chris Swisher. He is preceded in death by his wife of over 71 years, Clarice Humphrey Swisher, and his brother and sister-in-law, Glenn (Jean) Swisher. A special thanks to all of the wonderful staff at Lindley Inn who became his second family. He leaves many wonderful friends at Lindley.
 Visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, from 11am-1pm at Hughes Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio. A private burial will be held at West Union Street Cemetery.
