Harold Eugene "Gene" Smith
POMEROY: Harold Eugene "Gene" Smith, 68, of Pomeroy, OH, passed away unexpectedly at home Friday, December 20, 2013.
Born December 29, 1944 in Pomeroy, Ohio, to Harold and Erma (Gibbs) Smith, Gene lived in Mansfield, OH for many years before returning to Pomeroy later in life. Gene served in the United States Army from 1964 - 1967 and later worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service.
Gene will be especially remembered for his love of his family and friends, as well as fishing, sports, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Gene coached softball and pee-wee football in Mansfield and was a long-time member of the VFW.
Survived by son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Cari of Lucas, OH; mother Erma of Pomeroy, OH; brother Robert of Pomeroy, OH; and grandchildren Austin, Taylor, Kagan, and Dallas Smith. Preceded in death by father, Harold; son, Dallas; and beloved dog, Bobo.
Visitation with family will be held at 11am on January 18th at Taylortown Community Church in Shelby, OH. Funeral services will be immediately following at 12pm.
