Harley Dean “HD” Collins
The Plains - Harley Dean “HD” Collins, 88, of The Plains, died Friday evening, January 12, 2024, at his residence.
Born June 18, 1935, in Chauncey, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clifford and Ruth Hillyer Collins. Dean was a proud graduate of Glouster High School in 1953. He retired from the Southern Ohio Coal Company Meigs Mine #2 and he also worked at the steel mill in Philo, Ohio. In his early years he enjoyed to golf and bowl and he has been a lifelong sports fan. “HD” enjoyed and took great pride in doing yard work. His yard was never mowed, it was manicured. He was a strong man of faith, he became a born again Christian on March 17, 1995, and was a member of the Bread of Life Full Gospel Church in Jacksonville.
Dean is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Sayre Collins; four children, Melody (Rick) Meneely, Gary (Crystal) Collins, Melissa (Will) Cominsky and Amy Conrad; eight grandchildren, Darren, Amber, Cami, Josh, James “JD”, Krista, Jared and Collin; five great grandchildren, Dylan, Macey, Izik, Tucker and Casey; one sister-in-law, Geneva Collins; many nieces and nephews who were special to him and his special four legged friend, HD.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robbin Collins and Troy Collins; five brothers, Clifford Jr, Lawrence, Ralph (Julianne), Paul (Neta) and Terry and two sisters, Mary (Bobby) Trace and Verla Mae (Earl) Echstenkamper.
Funeral services will held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens with Pastor Ron Fierce officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home.
