Guy H. Calaway
Guy H. Calaway, 95, of Tuppers Plains, OH passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens, Ohio.
He was born Feb. 3, 1913 to the late Charles and Minnie Jane Springer Calaway on Calaway Ridge in Meigs County.
Guy worked at Union Carbide of Marietta until he retired in 1975. He was an avid farmer and hunter and loved to dig ginseng roots. He was a member of the Tuppers Plains VFW Post 9053 and was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, as of March 20, 2008, Annie Garnet Cremeans Calaway of Tuppers Plains, Ohio; three daughters, Shirley Roger Hawk of Tuppers Plains, Linda Robert Boggs of Lottridge and Brenda Rodney Smith of Coolville; four sons, Robert Joann Calaway of Chester, Warren Calaway of Tuppers Plains, Ernie Teresa Calaway of Alfred and Charles Calaway of Tuppers Plains; 12 grandchildren, Robbie, Jeromee, Lisa, Julie, Anita, Janet, Sarah, Troy, Brad, Brett, Jackie and Ashley; 9 great-grandchildren, Guy, Zoie, Doug, Jacob, Trent, Trevor, Ryan, Emma and McKenzie; and his great companion, Molly, his dog. He is also survived by his sister, Dora May Calaway of Tuppers Plains; 2 brothers-in-law; 4 sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Wooten; 3 brothers, Everett, Harry and Vere.
He was loved by all who met him.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 1 P.M., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, OH with Rev. Karen Walters and Edsel Hart officiating. Burial will be in the Tuppers Plains Christian Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by Tuppers Plains VFW. Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
