Gregory A. Canode, 64, of The Plains, died unexpectedly from a suspected heart attack while mowing his yard Saturday afternoon, April 6, 2024.
Born July 27, 1959, in Gallipolis, Ohio, he was the son of Ann Wilber Canode and the late Harley Canode. Greg was a carpenter at The Ohio State University for over 15 years. He was a member of the Christ Community Wesleyan Church, and a devoted Christian who loved reading his bible and listening to gospel music daily. He supported and loved his wife with all his heart for their 45 years of marriage. Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors and shared his passion with his son-in-law and grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather, “Gramps”. He was so proud of his daughter and all her accomplishments in life and loved his grandchildren immensely. He could be found at the ballfields any time one of his grandbabies had a game, cheering them on.
Beside his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lisa Rife Canode; one daughter, Emily (Nate) Chapman; two grandchildren, Hunter and Olivia Chapman; two brothers, Denny (Robin) Canode and Todd (Sarah) Canode; one sister-in-law, Pam (Lonnie) Boyer; two nieces, Cassie (Craig) McCollister and Hannah (Jake) Larrison and two nephews, Josh Boyer and Brian Canode.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Henry and Betty Rife; two brothers, Kevin and Keith Canode and one niece, Rachael Canode.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Athens Memory Gardens with Pastor Dale Minor officiating. Friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at hughesmoquinfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hughes Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio.
