The Plains - Fred Earl Cremeans, 83, of The Plains, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born in Cheshire, Ohio on April 8, 1941 to Grover and Ermal (Rife) Cremeans, and the best part of his life began in the spring of 1960 when he met Betty Ann Haskins, the love of his life. Their marriage produced a lifetime of happiness centered on their children Freddy, of Athens, Ohio, Marty, of Dallas, Georgia, Kim Burnell (John) of Columbia, Maryland and Jill Overholt (Eric) of San Diego, California, their grandchildren Beth (Fil), Kellie, Brandon, Evan (Abbey), Julia, Maxwell and Quinn Vivian, and great granddaughter Brynnleigh. He was predeceased by his parents, and brothers Tom and Frank.
Fred graduated from Kyger Creek High School in 1959 and earned his BBA from Ohio University in 1963. He began his professional career at McBee Systems in Athens and later joined Ohio University, where he rose to the position of Bursar before retiring. He also co-owned the Frisch’s Big Boy in Athens. Fred lent his hard work and good judgement as an active volunteer and leader in several school and civic organizations, including serving as treasurer and on the board of directors of the Ohio University Employees Credit Union.
Fred traveled extensively and at various times he enjoyed very competitive horseshoe games with his brothers, fishing trips with his family, playing in local softball and bowling leagues, coaching his children and encouraging his kids and grandkids in all their pursuits. Fred enjoyed his time with Betty Ann and their family most of all. He set an example of what is to be a great family man, an example that is cherished and reflected in each subsequent generation.
