Athens—Eric J. Coon, 64, of Athens, passed away unexpectedly August 15, 2018 at his home. Born October 3, 1953, he was the son of the late Jack Dwight and Betty Lee Heavener Coon.
A 1971 graduate of Athens High School and graduate of Ohio University, he spent over 40 years working for Cornwell Jewelers and Cornwell Properties. He was proudly active in the Athens community, where he endlessly volunteered for multiple charities and events. His most proud achievement was being an AA member for many years, where he continued to encourage and mentor other members up until the day he died. He was a life long resident of Athens where he developed and maintained many close friendships that he cherished very much. He was loved by many people.
He is survived by his fiancé, Tracy Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Jayde and Bob Wright; niece and her husband, Nicole and Marc Cox; nephew and his wife, Andrew and Kelsey Snedaker; great-niece, Reilly Cox; and great-nephew, Bronson Cox.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 12-4PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at West Union Street Cemetery with Rev. Robert Martin officiating.
