Emmett Duane Whitaker, 77, born in Venice, CA, passed away peacefully at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital on December 15, 2022. He spent his life in California, Washington, Oregon, and Ohio. From 1963 to 1971 he proudly served in Special Ops of the US Army and Army Reserves. He loved DIY projects, gardening, fishing, birdwatching, mushroom-hunting, and Youtube. He enjoyed watching his extensive movie collection, telling stories from his time working in the steamship industry, and, most recently, learning to play bridge. He was grateful for the excellent care he received at The Lindley Inn and the kind friends he met there. Emmett was preceded in death by his wife Judi Whitaker. He is survived by his son Thomas Emmett Whitaker, daughter-in-law Alicia Whitaker, stepson Kelly Jain, step-daughters Cindy Knapp and Debbie Jain, brother Murl Whitaker, sister-in-law Robyn Whitaker, sister Sharon Whitaker, loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Although he suffered from multiple health ailments, he maintained his faith in God, sense of humor, and love of jelly beans throughout. Emmett’s wishes were that any memorial contributions be made to My Sister’s Place, P.O. Box 1158, Athens, OH 45701. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home where you are encouraged to sign the online guestbook or donate memorial contributions online to My Sister's Place at www.hughesmoquinfuneralhome.com.
