Elsie Davis Dodderer, 85 departed this life July 9th at the Arcadia Nursing Center in Coolville, OH. She had experienced numerous health problems over an extended period of time.
She was born in Coolville, OH on November 22, 1921 the daughter of D. C. and Hanna McCall Davis. She attended Troy Township School, graduating in the class of 1939. She attended the Congregational Church in Coolville until services were discontinued there and later on attended the North Bethel Church as her health permitted.
She was a member of The Helen McCleoud Service Guild in Coolville and attended Senior Citizens meetings in the Village. She was also a member of The Order of The Eastern Star for many years in Zanesville, OH.
Soon after graduating from high school, she was employed by The Mc Bee Corporation in Athens, OH where she worked until her marriage to Frank Dodderer on September 3, 1957. At that time she assumed the role of a housewife, an occupation she really enjoyed. She was an excellent housekeeper and homemaker.
The newly married couple made their home in Zanesville, OH where he was employed. Upon his retirement, they moved back to their hometown of Coolville and resided there for some nineteen years.
In nineteen eighty nine they moved to their new home located on the Dodderer Farm near Tuppers Plains, OH. This was Elsie's first experience of living on a farm in a rural community and again it was a life she really enjoyed.
Elsie was always concerned about the welfare of other people. She made generous donations to our paralyzed and disabled veterans, to needy families in Appalachia and needy children in foreign countries. She became a member of The National Wildlife Federation and contributed to the welfare of our wildlife.
Surviving is a niece, Janet Gosnell of Reynoldsburg, OH; a nephew, Philip Heil of Hardy, VA; a niece by marriage, Teresa Lemons of Coolville; seven great-nieces; and her husband of forty-nine years, Frank Dodderer.
Calling hours are scheduled for two to four and six to eight, Wednesday, July 11th at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville. Services will be conducted by Rev. George Horner at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 12th at the funeral home.
Soon after the services, she will be laid to rest in the Christian Church Cemetery in Tuppers Plains, OH.
