Doris Ladd

October 3, 1941 — May 19, 2023

CUTLER-- Doris Ladd, 81, of Cutler, OH, passed away Friday, May 19, 2023, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Doris was born Oct. 3, 1941, in Richboro, PA, daughter of the late Harold and Esther Weir. She grew up on her family’s farm and enjoyed helping on her father’s market route. Her favorite foods were homegrown sweet corn and lima beans. She graduated from Council Rock High School and then Elizabethtown College. She taught kindergarten for several years, before marrying Harry Ladd and moving to Wilmington, DE. She and Harry lived there for 35 years where they raised their two daughters Martha and Jill.

Doris was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Wilmington, DE. She taught Sunday School and Bible School, helped with Youth group, the Live Nativity, Women of Covenant, led Covenant Clowns and Puppeteers, and did outreach to local nursing homes. After moving to Ohio, she attended Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Belpre, where she helped with the Pilots afterschool program, women’s circle, and more.

She was an avid gardener and loved all flowers and growing a variety of vegetables. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds (especially hummingbirds), deer, butterflies, and cats. She loved sunsets, taking pictures, flower arranging, painting, and sewing. Every time it snowed, she built snowmen and made snow ice cream. She loved Scrabble, bowling, and having company for meals. For almost 60 years she met annually with a group of close friends from college. She was always excited when her granddaughters visited. She genuinely cared and wanted to connect with people. She felt that one of her purposes in life was to listen to the concerns of others with empathy.
Doris is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harry Ladd; 2 daughters and their husbands, Martha and Lynn Rau and Jill and Mark Anderson; 3 granddaughters, Kathryn, Holly and Noelle Rau and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Harvey, sister Peggy, and brother-in-law Bill Allen.

A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M., Friday, May 26, 2023, at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Belpre, OH, with Pastor Rick Hastings officiating. A meal will be served following the service.
The family will be accepting family and friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
