CHESTER--Donald Ray Van Meter, 78, of Chester, OH passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the Arbors of Pomeroy.
He was born Aug. 24, 1938 in Burlingham, OH son of the late James and Ada (Kimes) Van Meter. Donald married Lila Bahr on July 12, 1962, He was a member of the South Bethel Community Church, a 1957 graduate of Chester High School and a former member of the Chester Vol. Fire Dept.
Donald is survived by his wife, Lila Bahr Van Meter; a daughter, Alvena (Mike) Collins of Tuppers Plains; a son, Victor "VJ" (Melissa) Van Meter of Long Bottom; grandchildren, Mariah (Matthew) Barringer, Addie Hill, John Harris, Emily Van Meter, Carson Van Meter and Jessie Collins; a niece, Teresa (Randy) Houdashelt and a nephew, Greg Van Meter,
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Purl and Barbara (Grueser) Van Meter.
Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the South Bethel Cemetery with Pastor Rob Barber officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-8 P.M. at The Bethel Worship Center.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the South Bethel Community Church or to the Chester Vol. Fire Dept.
