Donald Day
Donald Day, 81, of Guysville, OH passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1930 in Parkersburg, WV to the late James Hartman Day and Virginia Deem Day. After graduation in 1948 he joined the U.S. Navy Seebees and served 4 years on Guam and the Phillipines. On leaving the Navy in 1952, he went to work at the Parkersburg Rig & Real, later becoming, Walker Systems, a Div. of Wiremold. He retired from there as Safety Director, after 42 years, in 1994. He was a member of American Legion Post 15 in Parkersburg, WV. He was also an Athens Mall Walker with 8, 000 miles.
In 1952, he married Betty Caplinger. They became parents of seven children, Timothy Lee Day and Barbara of Guysville, OH, James M. Day and Junie of Frankfort, OH, Nancy G. Day Staats and John Davis of Guysville, OH, Christopher R. Day and Tammy of Amesville, OH, Joel A. Day and Linda of Guysville, OH, Melissa Day Wilfong and Greg of Guysville, OH and an infant son, Dennis, dying at birth.
Surviving is a sister, Shirley Martin and husband, Frank of Davisville, WV; brothers-in-law, Bruce Hager of Coolville, OH and Robert Marshall of Davisville, WV; two special friends, John Davis and Tammy Petrowski; his grandchildren, Joie and Jeremy Carr, Matthew and Ellissa Day, Grace Day, Gina and Chad Huthinson, Christopher Day Jr., Brant Day, Patrick Day and Dillon Wilfong; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and infant son, Dennis, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Hatfield and Pamela Hager; a half brother, Gilford Rowley; a special friend, Rex Maiden and a very special friend, his little Doxey dog, Barney.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville, OH with Rev. Charles Buck officiating. Burial will be in the Vanderhoof Cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg, WV.
