Don C. Gibson

ATHENS-Don C. Gibson, 89 of Athens, died peacefully on Thursday, February 1st, 2018 at Kimes Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on September 21, 1928, he was the son of the late James F. and Lana O. Ash Gibson.

Don had a deep love for animals and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University. He also had a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan. At the time of his retirement he was a Captain in the US Public Health Service, and the Associate Director of the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health. With his brothers, Don owned and operated local business Gibson Ford Lincoln Mercury and International Trucks. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bert Douglas Gibson, two children, Mark (Lorraine) Gibson and Gay Gibson; grandchildren, George Gibson, Lauren and Rebecca Nichols; brother, Gary (Sally) Gibson, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his 5 brothers, James, Robert, George, John, and Gordy; and son-in-law, Phil Nichols.

Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home where funeral services will be Saturday February 10, 2018 at 11AM with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21 and the Albany VFW Post 9893. Friends and family may call upon the family on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 4PM-7PM.
