Dirk Allen Malone

ATHENS- Dirk Allen Malone, 26, of Athens, died unexpectedly from injuries received in an automobile accident in Athens County on September 29, 2018.  Born May 29, 1992 in Athens, he was the son of Darrin J. and Angela M. Malone, also of Athens.

Dirk graduated from Alexander High School in 2010 and from Muskingum College in 2014, both summa cum laude. While attending Alexander High School, he was an avid sportsman, with cross-country, track, basketball, and baseball being his love.  While attending Muskingum College, Dirk played baseball for the Muskies. Dirk was an eloquent writer and was writing a book, A Mindful Messenger, was an avid reader, and employed by Malone Warehouse Tire.

In addition to his parents, Dirk is survived by his sister, Allyson Malone; maternal grandparents, Lily Holley and Virgil “Ken” Holley; paternal grandparents, Sandra Malone and Deslar (Rhonda) Malone; uncles and aunts, Kenny (Melissa) Holley, Jerrod, and Jodi Malone; cousins, Elizabeth and Madison Holley, Jace and Jocelynn Malone; numerous great aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a special beloved companion, his dog, Precious, and a family of darling kittens.

Dirk is preceded in death by his great grandparents, Mae Bennett, Robert and Clara Cooper, Clifford and Norma Malone, all of Glouster, and a great uncle Robert Allen Cooper, his namesake.

Funeral services will be 1PM on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Athens Middle School with Pastor Chris Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Alexander Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 2-8PM at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial scholarship contributions in Dirk’s name may be made to the Alexander’s Future Foundation, P.O.
