David L. Mayles

     Athens - David L. Mayles, 40, of Athens, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 28, 2024.
     Born December 18, 1983, in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of David Edward (Debra) Mayles and Jennifer Jean Walraven VanDyke. David was a 2002 graduate of Athens High School and later graduated from Ohio State College of Barber Styling.  He had a great passion for Indian artifacts, loved searching for arrowheads and had a wealth of knowledge about local tribes.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  In the woods or on an old farm pond he and his brother were always trying to one up each other.  He was always at peace when he was in the outdoors.  His most prized possession and the one thing that brought him more joy than anything else was his daughter.
     Along with his parents, he is survived by his daughter Hadley Marie Mayles and her mother, Megan Myers; one brother, Roger (Missy) Rutter; three sisters, Lisa (Rick) Huston, Heather (Ed) Carter and Amy (Jason) Wolfe; one stepbrother, Isaac Standley; three stepsisters, Amy VanDyke, Ashley (Jeremy) Farley and Jessica Standley and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
     He was preceded in death by his stepfather Mark VanDyke.
     Funeral services will be at 7:00PM on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio with Brad Seevers officiating.
