Portland – Clearence Gordon Proffitt, 84 of Portland, Ohio died Friday, June 20, 2014 at Overbrook Rehabilitation Center in Middleport, Ohio.
Born November 8, 1929 in Portland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Elmer and Edra Lathy Proffitt. Clearence was the owner of Proffitt Grocery Store in Portland for 17 years. He was a logger and farmer which included raising cattle. He also drove a bus for the Southern Local School District.
He is survived by a son James Gordon (Maggie) Proffitt of Warrenton, NC; a daughter Patsy Proffitt Cornell of Syracuse; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; a sister Janet Theiss of Patriot, Ohio and a special friend Mary Carroll of Long Bottom.
Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11 A.M., at Ewing Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will be in the Meigs County Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the Ewing Funeral Home on Sunday, June 22 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.ewingfuneralhome.net
