NELSONVILLE – Charles E. Powell, Jr., 69, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday morning, May 6, 2018 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born January 23, 1949 in Nelsonville, he was the son of the late Charles E. Sr. and Norma Triplett Powell.
He was raised at Circle Hill and was a painter in and around Athens County for 34 years. He also was a Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving from April 1968 until June 1970.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vicki Frazee Powell; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Shelly Powell of Albany; a daughter and son-in-law, Tina and John Hooper of Athens.
Charlie was known as Papaw to Courtney Powell, Haley Bissell, Brandon Bissell; and step grandchildren, Corey Wooten and Dalton Hooper.
He is also survived by his siblings, Judy (Larry) McDaniel of Groveport, Nancy (Lewis) Samuels of Dayton, Dennis (Brenda) Powell of Germantown, and Randy (Vicki) Powell of Lebanon.
No public services will be observed. Burial will take place at Hilltop cemetery at the convenience of the family with Georgeanne Thomas officiating. Military Services will be conducted by the Athens American Legion Post 21 and the Albany VFW Post 9893. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to OhioHealth Hospice for all their care.
