REEDSVILLE—Charles E. Mays, 76, of Reedsville, Ohio, passed away July 9th, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born January 4th, 1948, in Belleville, WV, son of the late Everett C. and Georgia Randolph Mays. He was a Vietnam Army Veteran serving as assistant section chief in Searchlight Operations in support of the 11th Marine Regiment of the 1st Marine Division earning an award for his leadership and performance of duty.
Charles enjoyed hunting, pitching horseshoes, watching sports, playing on baseball teams in his youth and hanging out on Friday nights with his two best friends, Danny Kidder and John Causey.
He was a member of the Forked Run Sportman Club of Meigs County and formerly worked at the Viscoe Plant, Dellmill Wood Products, Heist of Marietta, Donavan’s Bro’s Construction in Parkersburg, WV and Ketchum’s of Hockingport. He loved construction work the most.
Charles is survived by one son, Jason Charles Mays of Parkersburg, WV; four sisters, Beryle Barber of Gallipolis, OH, Alice Chevalier of Reedsville, OH, Florence Arnold of Coolville, OH and Sharon Nihizer of Logan, OH and several nieces and nephews. He was a much loved father, brother and uncle who will be greatly missed.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Null and 11 brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to especially thank Hospice and their wonderful nurses. A special thanks to Nurse Bailey Collins, for taking our calls and being supportive and also to Dr. Kelli Cawley, Dr. Lloyd Dennis and staff of Marietta Memorial Cancer Center. A very special thank you to our nephew Wendell Barber for the care and 24 hour companionship to his Uncle Charlie for many weeks. Our thanks to special friends, John and Tammy Causey and Danny Kidder for always being there and helping in many ways. We appreciate all other family and friends who helped in different ways and made the days better for Charlie.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, July 12, 2024, at White Funeral Home in Coolville, OH, with Rev. Steve Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Rood Family Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Tuppers Plains VFW Post 9053, at the funeral home following the funeral service.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday, from 10 A.M. until time of service.
