Carl L. Whalen, Sr.

NEW PLYMOUTH – Carl L. Whalen, Sr., 80, of New Plymouth, formerly of the Columbus area, died Thursday morning, May 6, 2021 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens.

Born April 3, 1941 in Columbus, he was one of five siblings, Sonny, Carol, Allen , and Tommy to the late Richard and Nellie Duffy Whalen.

He was a graduate of New Albany High School and retired from the heating and cooling industry after serving the Columbus area most of his life.

He is survived by three children, Cynthia Byers, Carl L. (Doris) Whalen, Jr., Kelley J. Whalen; four grandchildren, Amber Black, Andrea Whalen, Carlee Whalen, Brittany Whalen; several great grandchildren; and his companion of 17 years, Sarah Pelikan.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy L. Whalen; and a granddaughter, Ashley Whalen.
