Anna "Ann" Beryl Burgess left this world on Nov. 28, 2016.
She was born July 1, 1931 in Princeton, WV to John William Henry Lee and Edna Lou (Showalter) Parker. Ann was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had a huge heart and an incredible spirit and would do anything she could for anyone. Ann devoted her life as a nurse and a foster parent for Athens County Children Services where she opened her home to over 200 children until she retired. She had a passion for playing video games and loved rubbing it in when she beat her grandkids. Nothing was more important than the time she spent with her family.
She has left behind her devoted husband of 58 years, George Edward Burgess; her children, Jonni Lou Blackwell-Coler (Donald); Betty "Betsy" Ann Blackwell-Schaeffer (Michael), Rodney Burgess (Pam) and Jackie Burgess; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Belmont Parker; four sisters, Lynda Lou Hale (Robert), Kathleen Heath Hutchinson (Darryl), Dottie Jean Bond (Garner) and Charolette Lorene York and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jenny Lynn Blackwell; four sisters, Beverly Sue Parker, Helen Henrietta Pheiffer, Peggie June Colegrove and Paulette Irene York and five grandchildren, Terra Dawn, Cari Jean, Bettina Marie, Giovanni and Michael Jordan.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M., Friday, Dec. 2, 2016 at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville with Darryl Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Frost Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11 A.M. until time of service at the funeral home.
The family wishes to express thanks to Kimes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and to Riverside Methodist Hospital ICU Blue team for the loving care they gave her.
