The Plains

Beloved friend, sports enthusiast, and devoted individual, Alfred Philip Oppermann passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22, 2024 leaving behind cherished memories of a life well-lived. A lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions and Red Wings, Al‘s passion for sports was only surpassed by his love for biking and the open road, where he found peace and adventure.

Al‘s deep faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength and guidance. He was known for his kind spirit, his laughter, and the genuine joy he brought to those around him. Whether it was cheering on his favorite teams or spending quality time with friends, Al valued the connections he made, always offering a listening ear and a warm smile.

His legacy will be carried on by those who knew him best, remembering him for his loyalty, his love of life, and his unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his sister Lori Foster(Irv Daley); step-children, Shawna (John) Sams, Roger Thompson, Crystal (Mike) Lanum, Traci Thompson, David Thompson; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia Oppermann; mother & father, Theresia and Philipp Oppermann; his grandchild, Bradley Shawn Thompson; and great-grandchild, Archer Richard Sams.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hughes Funeral Home where cremation services have been scheduled. A memorial service will be 11AM on Friday, October 18, 2024 at The Plains United Methodist Church.
