ATHENS – Dora Mae Bailey, 83, of Athens, passed away early Saturday morning, February 25, 2017 at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Dora was born in Athens on August 11, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Sarah “Lulu” Bartlett White. Besides her parents, Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Bailey; and a special companion, Alva Johnson; and siblings, Helen Davis, Louise Melling, Evelyn Sams, Pauline Rutter, and Carl “Junior” White; one niece and four nephews. Dora loved her family. She is survived by a brother, Robert White of Chesapeake, Virginia. Dora was a life-long resident of her beloved Athens. She was a special aunt “Aunt Dorie” and enjoyed the company of her eight nephews and 12 nieces and many great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her many friends at Carpenter Hall who provided her with enduring friendship, kindness and love. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Clarks Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Mark Rosser officiating.
